Verizon is planning to slash 8000 jobs, the company announced today after a lower than forecast earnings report. Most of these jobs will come from the landline business (accounting for 3.4% of its landline workforce). This is in addition to the 8000 jobs Verizon already announced it would be cutting. This is a smart move on Verizon’s part, as landlines are becoming ever more unpopular. Of course, there’s no cure for the competition they’re getting from AT&T, sole operator of Apple’s incredibly popular iPhone. Verizon fans shouldn’t fret, however, as they are still the number 1 service provider in the nation, and they’ll be introducing the Palm Pre next year (after Sprint’s exclusive time runs out).
Sprint users, however, might want to be nervous….
